To sum up Mola Mola Sound Space in a short sentence is a tough job as it’s an ever evolving creature, created by the Mola Mola collective. MMSS sees our best musicians and DJs plus friends and often visitors to the space creating an experimental area for sound. It’s our studio out of the studio and much more.
Visiting one of our sound spaces you can expect anything from collaborative sound art to live performance, experimental DJ sets covering everything from ambient and kosmische to noise and power electronics. Listening zones playing field recordings to transport you to another location.
So sit back/stand up/dance/lie down/relax/listen and enjoy.
In 2012 we took MMSS to Shambala Festival and had a great time, you can check out the photos on our blog. During the day we had a jam zone, live percussion, toy keyboards and weird electronics to join in and make some noise. On the evenings we created our immersive listening space, guests are invited to don a blindfold, lie back and listen as we create a live surround sound experience.
If you’re interested in seeing MMSS at your festival, event or venue let us know.
Wildlife Analysis is our night of music for listening and dancing. We play great tunes while screening incredible wildlife footage. It makes for a sweet evening, whether you’re wanting to have a dance around or just sit and chill out for some drinks with your friends. We had a stint at the legendary Lamp Club in Hull before it shut. Since then we’ve been somewhat quiet but looking to make a return. Get it touch if you’re interested in having us DJ (with or without the visuals).

Mixing drones, psychedelic synths, occasional drum machines and pulsing electronics to make soundscapes of noise evoking science fiction soundtracks and early electronic library music.
"if to describe such kind of music you don`t need many words at all. Highly oscillating synths used to push forward into the format of Kosmische Musik as if setting out its own narrative about the creation of the Outer Space. On the other way, just listening to it seems to be a much more democratic activity because of getting a chance to perceive more colours, accents, modalities, and variegated tones below, above and around it. In a nutshell, a handful of notches represented here do provide a savory listening. Indeed, Joseph Cox made it out again. " - Recent Music Heroes
The Less Decieved
The Less Deceived allow themselves the freedom to experiment with as many sounds as possible, the results are a mixture of shoegaze, indie-folk, and slowcore. Written, recorded, and mastered all by themselves away off in whatever space they can use as a studio, they have made two EP’s and we couldn’t be happier to have them on our label.
Post minimal piano progressions.
Teotl Expansion (pronounced tay-oh-tal expansion) are an exciting new act in the world of experimental electronic music. Taking inspiration from the likes of Tim Hecker, Alva Noto and Steve Reich the pair set out to make contradictory music. Complex yet simple, unnerving and soothing, organic but at the same time as un-natural as astroturf.
Teotl Expansion’s debut EP P:1 is a perfect introduction to their business practices. Each track is a sprawling, glitchy, soundscape that dissorientates the listener as it surrounds them with sampled piano tracks cut up to near un-recognisable degrees.
The Sun Hits
The Sun Hits started off as the solo project of Michael Fox, trying to recapture the sound of dark themed post-hardcore using the odds and ends of recording equipment he’d been given by friends. The results of his first solo recordings turned out to be Thanks, a lo-fi meander through many decades of punk and a steep learning process in how to copy Steve Albini.
Now continuing to expand on what has come before The Sun Hits has evolved into an experiment to see where punk can go, mixing as many styles as possible and discarding the “first take is the best take” mentality to allow much more studio magic while leaving the rough edges in place.
